The city of ember By: Jeanne Duprau

Have you ever lived in a world where lightbulbs are your only source of light and the only thing that runs it is a genorator, and have a job at 12? but the genorator starts to.......

well Doon and Lina find a weird looking box with paper inside and Poppie is chewing on it. they find out that it leads to the..... where they see thing they have never seen before that we see every day. But they also find something they never expext to see in the pipeworks.

They find and but they don't know how to use them.

[born 1944 in San Francisco, California] Jeanne DuPrau spends several hours of every day at her computer, thinking up sentences. She has this quote taped to her wall: "A writer is someone for whom writing is harder than it is for other people" (Thomas Mann).

This gives her courage, because she finds writing very hard. So many words to choose from! So many different things that could happen in a story at any moment! Writing is one tough decision after another.

But it's also the most satisfying thing she knows how to do. So she keeps doing it. So far, she has written four novels, six books of non-fiction , and quite a few essays and stories.
